An annual awareness day regarding vision-impaired called World Sight Day (WSD) is celebrated every year on the second Thursday of October. It is estimated that 2.2 billion individuals are having vision impairment worldwide.

    Purpose Of The World Sight Day (WSD):

    Purpose of the World Sight Day (WSD) is: 

    • Focusing the attention of the world on blind or vision impaired population
    • Celebrate achievements
    • Increasing awareness regarding eye care
    • Influence policymakers to devise strategies for the betterment of blind or vision impaired community and allocate funds.

    Eyesight Issues:

    Eyesight can be affected by various factors like

    • Diabetes (Diabetic retinopathy)
    • Trachoma
    • Glaucoma
    • Refractive error
    • Trauma to the eyes
    • Cataracts

    Approximately, more than 36 million people are blind worldwide. Out of these almost 80% of individuals shouldn’t have lost their eyesight.
